I have always been impressed by the power of words, especially when expressed in fine poetry. I was not surprised to read that Terry Waite, in his long months of solitary confinement, while a prisoner in the Middle East, found consolation in repeating to himself great verse, as well as prayer. He fell back on memory to find pleasure in the expression of fine language.
In his own words “The harmony of language helped me find some form of inner structure and that enabled me to keep hold of inner identity when it appeared that my body as such was failing.” As we know, the body and spirit of this brave man did not fail in spite of suffering and privation.
A fine example to the rest of us. To seek encouragement and strength within the pages of the Bible.
